Businesses for accept used motor oil for recycling

“T-Lube in Clayton has volunteered to accept used motor oil for recycling,” said Charlotte Nix, Assistant Coordinator of Project R.O.S.E. (Recycled Oil Saves Energy), Alabama’s used motor oil education outreach program located in the Chemical Engineering Department at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa.

Project R.O.S.E. hosts an annual 5K race and proceeds from the race go towards purchasing tanks for rural areas of Alabama like the one recently set up at T-Lube. “Randy Hale, Wiregrass RC & D coordinator, and Allen Turner, owner of T-Lube, were instrumental in setting up the tank,” said Nix.

“We appreciate Mr. Turner’s willingness to provide a site for DIY (do it yourself) used motor oil collection,” Nix said. “This is a more central location for Barbour residents. Up until now our only recycling locations were in Eufaula at the Eufaula Recycling Center, Auto Zone, Advance Auto Parts, A1 Lube and Carwash 1. We are grateful T-Lube was willing to provide this community service.”

Project R.O.S.E. would like to see additional recycling locations added in the county.

“Used motor oil contains toxic chemicals that are harmful to humans, plants, and animals. Motor oil sticks to everything from sand to bird feathers and when improperly disposed can contaminate ground and surface water. Just one gallon of used motor oil can contaminate a million gallons of fresh water. Recycling is the only proper disposal method,” said Nix.

“It is everyone’s responsibility to keep the environment clean,” said Nix. Used motor oil is accepted in small quantities during business hours and should never be mixed with any other substance.

T-Lube is located at 15 Western Bypass, Clayton, Ala., phone 334-775-8833. Hours: Monday to Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday 8 a.m. to noon.
