UA awarded recycling grant

TUSCALOOSA – The University of Alabama has been awarded an $80,000 grant to expand and promote a statewide oil-recycling program.  The grant has been approved for the continuation and expansion of the Recycled Oil Saves Energy project.

Project ROSE is a university-sponsored program that promotes the recovery of used motor oil and its reuse among private and commercial sources statewide.  The program supports more than 500 used oil collection sites across Alabama and works to educate the public on the benefits of recycling.

“This project not only saves energy but also protects our environment.  I commend the University of Alabama for sponsoring this program,” Gov. Don Siegelman said.

Siegelman awarded the grant from funds made available to the state through a program of the U.S. Department of Energy.  He has designated the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs to administer the grant.
