Have you ever changed the oil in your tractor or other farm machinery and then dumped or buried the used oil on your farm, poured it into a ditch or in a field to kill weeds or on a dirt path to cut down on dust? These practices can add up to a big disaster for your crops, animals and even your family.
Over 600 million gallons of used oil are generated each year in the United States. It is estimated that one-third of this amount is disposed of improperly. This amount of oil, if poured on the ground in one location, would create a foot-deep pool of oil more than 620 acres in size.
Project R.O.S.E. promotes proper used oil management through collection and recycling. To accomplish its purposes, the program conducts continuous public education projects and helps establish community oil collection/recycling statewide. Project R.O.S.E. focuses on the do-it-yourself(DIY) oil changer's relationship to used oil pollution prevention.
